Elementary English Language Learner (ELL)

The Elementary English Language Learners (ELL) program provides support to students who have limited English language skills. The ELL Intensive program is for those who require language support in addition to regular classroom curriculum.  Students with very limited English proficiency attend pull-out classes. These classes are in a small group setting where the four literacy skills are supported.  Listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills are practiced through a variety of activities. ELL specialist teachers also work with students on vocabulary and grammar.

Secondary English Language Learner (ELL)

The Secondary English Language Learners (ELL) Department provides English language support to students in Grades 7-10 who are identified as needing extra language support to help them succeed. Bi-annual English Language assessments and the use of Map testing results are used to identify and to track individual student needs and progress. The aim of the ELL Department is to meet the individual language support needs of students and enable them to develop the academic proficiency skills necessary to perform successfully in mainstream classes. The secondary ELL program focuses on reading, writing, language and speaking skills and take place in a separate classroom, and with English language specialist teachers.                                

Elementary Learning Support Center (LSC)

The Elementary Learning Support Center (LSC) is available to help students who need additional academic support within or apart from the regular classroom.  Students who exhibit substantial learning difficulties within the classroom are referred to the learning support team, consisting of four learning support teachers and two school counselors.  After a referral is made, a learning support teacher conducts a series of observations and informal assessments. If it is deemed beneficial, the student is then accepted into the LSC program.

Secondary Learning Support Center (LSC)

The objective of the Secondary Learning Support Center (LSC) is to provide academic and subject area reinforcement to students so that they may reach their full learning potential. Secondary Learning Support provides academic support for students identified with mild to moderate learning differences. Students in grades 7-12 are eligible to receive Learning Support if they have a formal cognitive and achievement testing report on file, or acquire a formal evaluation within 30 days of being identified as needing the services. Curriculum is not modified, and students are expected to meet the objectives of the mainstream curriculum. Students receive support in small group settings to address individual academic subject area needs. Learning Support is offered as an elective class with Learning Specialist teachers working with individual or small groups of students.
